ABOUT
The OSEI Lab or Lung Bioartificial Model Lab is in UBC-Okanagan, situated on the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan Nation.
It is in the UBCO IKB Faculty of Science, Biology department. The Lab specializes in assessing and understanding the basic mechanisms of inflammation and tissue repair and remodelling (fibrosis) in obstructive lung disease. This is done by specifically assessing multicellular and multiorgan interactions as well as the role of the mechanodynamic lung environment through the use of next-generation biomimetic models, microscopy imaging, and cellular and molecular techniques. Through interdisciplinary research, the OSEI Lab aims to develop innovative therapies and bioengineered solutions to improve respiratory health.

Glossary
The glossary showcases a collection of microscopic images captured in the Osei Lab, ranging from detailed 2D images to advanced 3D visualizations, offering a deeper look into the lab’s innovative research techniques and findings. The page also showcases images captured from various lab activities.
The UBCO Eminence Program funds the Immunobiology Research Excellence Cluster, which aims to develop next-generation techniques to monitor how immune cells in real-time interact with their environment and other cells by developing effective pre-clinical 3D biomimetic models. Dr. Osei is co-lead of this cluster with Dr. Isaac Li (Chemistry). The cluster also involves Drs. Fred Menard (Chemistry), Will Hughes, Jennifer Frattolin & Luca Piantanida (Engineering).
